PSY608 Guidelines for Reviewers

Reviews should be conducted fairly and objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. If the research reported in the manuscript is flawed, criticize the science, not the scientist. Personal criticism is likely to lead an author to ignore useful comments, making your review less useful. Criticisms should be objective, not merely differences of opinion, and intended to help the author improve his or her proposal.

You should decline to review proposal in which you could identify the author.

Respect the confidentiality of the proposal, which is sent to you in confidence. You should not discuss proposal with classmates or use the information in your own work. If you feel a classmate is more qualified than you to review the proposal, do not pass the manuscript on to that person without first requesting permission to do so from the course instructor. Your review and your recommendation should also be considered confidential.

If you choose to remain anonymous, ensure that you avoid comments to the authors that might serve as clues to your identity.

Please comment on the issues as follow in the report submitted.

1. Is the research question justifiable?

2. Is the manuscript well organized and clearly written?

3. Is the purpose of the manuscript clear?

4. Is the literature adequately reviewed?

5. Is the method clearly and adequately described?

6. Are the techniques of data analysis appropriate?

You are free to comment on other issues you deem important. Normally 7-14 days will be given to complete required assignment.
